Staff Accountant
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our finance team. This role involves managing a broad spectrum of accounting functions, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and supporting the organization’s financial health. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting skills, experience with various accounting software, and a commitment to accuracy and integrity in financial reporting. Duties
- Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulatory requirements.
- Manage general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end closing processes.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely processing of invoices, payments, and collections.
- Conduct bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations to verify accuracy of financial data.
- Assist with budget preparation, forecasting, and financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) controls and other regulatory standards.
- Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
- Maintain accurate records using various accounting software such as PeopleSoft, Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, or similar platforms.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on projects related to corporate finance, governmental accounting, or non-profit accounting as needed.
- Mentor junior staff members by sharing expertise in technical accounting practices and financial concepts.
Skills
- Proven experience with corporate accounting, governmental accounting, or non-profit accounting environments.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, SOX compliance requirements, and securities law considerations.
- Proficiency in accounting software including QuickBooks, Quicken, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft or equivalent systems.
- Solid knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping principles, debits & credits, journal entries, and account reconciliation techniques.
- Expertise in financial report writing and interpretation of complex financial statements.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to perform cash flow analysis and financial management tasks.
- Familiarity with tax experience related to Wills, Trusts & Estate Law is a plus.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting; experience with other financial software is desirable.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to multitask effectively under deadlines.
- Effective communication skills for mentoring team members and collaborating across departments.
