Job Requirements of Environmental Health and Safety Specialist:
Key activities and responsibilities of this role include:
- Support EHS (Environmental, Health & Safety) communications across all plant locations.
- Serve as the site Emergency Coordinator and primary contact for all EHS-related concerns, including after-hours response.
- Develop and deliver EHS compliance training for employees and leadership teams.
- Monitor Lockout-Tagout and PPE programs to ensure compliance and vendor performance.
- Lead the site safety team, including behavior-based safety programs and regular safety meetings with operations.
- Conduct Job Hazard Analyses and partner with departments to proactively reduce workplace risks.
- Maintain accurate documentation for inspections, incidents, permits, and safety data sheets (SDS).
- Track, analyze, and report on agreed EHS metrics
- Conduct routine inspections, audits, and risk assessments
- Implement and manage company EHS programs (e.g., Industrial Hygiene, Emergency Action Plans, Hazard Communication).·
- Report safety and environmental concerns observed on the floor to leadership.·
- Investigate incidents and unsafe conditions; develop and implement corrective actions.·
- Recommend updates to EHS policies and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.·
- Maintain and update EHS-related ISO documentation.·
- Collaborate with HR and the QEHS Director on workers’ compensation claims.·
- Promote a strong safety culture by mentoring employees and reinforcing safety best practices.·
- Lead emergency preparedness efforts, including response planning, drills, and first aid readiness.
Job Requirements:·
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant safety/environmental or STEM-based discipline (preferred: OHS, IH, or Environmental Science)·
- 2-5 years of relevant EHS experience in manufacturing or industrial settings·
- Demonstrated knowledge of EHS practices, principles, health and wellness, and federal/state/local laws (OSHA/NCDOL, EPA/NCDEQ)·
- Root cause analysis, incident investigation, 5-why, and CAPA management experience
- CSP, CIH, CMM, MESH certification (preferred, or willingness to acquire)·
- Strong MS Office experience (excel, word, etc.)·
- SAP experience·
- Auditing experience·
- ISO experience·
- ISO 45001 and 14001 Lead Auditor (preferred, or willingness to acquire)·
- Strong team player with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines and adapt to an evolving work environment ·
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and effective verbal and written communication skills

As an Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in promoting a culture of safety, environmental protection, and compliance. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of EHS functions, making you an essential bridge between management and staff. You will be instrumental in keeping the company compliant with all federal and legal requirements and assisting in the implementation of EHS policies and procedures. Your role will involve providing guidance on various EHS matters, such as OSHA safety guidelines, health and safety guidelines, and compliance with environmental laws. You'll be responsible for fostering a positive, safe workplace culture and ensuring all employees are properly trained. Additionally, you will collaborate with other departments to address EHS needs, and hazard identifications, and maintain accurate EHS training records.
