Chemist / Lab tech
Title - Chemists / Laboratory Technicians
Pay - $20 phr paid weekly
Schedule - Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm
Duties -
Lab Technicians are responsible for the calibration/verification and operation of smoking machines and other laboratory equipment. He/she should be familiar with project requirements and the correct set-up for smoking according to those details. The technician is also responsible for the preparation of solutions to be used during smoking, preparation of impingers, ice baths and other glassware and equipment where applicable.
Technicians are responsible for ensuring that all applicable equipment is verified/calibrated prior to use, and for preparing samples in compliance with published SOP’s and Test Methods. A SP Technician is responsible for recording raw data promptly and accurately and in compliance with the quality system and is responsible for the quality of the data.
Lab Technicians are required to complete duties of both sample preparation and sample generation where required in co-operation with their team. After smoking, the Technician extracts the samples and, where applicable, dilutes samples, breaks down samples (digesting) using microwave, and loads samples on the instruments used in their analysis.
All Technicians are responsible for the cleanliness, organization, and upkeep of the laboratory to maintain a good working environment. This includes (but is not limited to) neutralizing and discarding of acid waste, as well as disposing of chlorinated and non-chlorinated waste. All procedures must be carried out according to applicable SOPs/Test Methods or other Quality Controlled documentation and/or training.
Primary Responsibilities
- Obtain cigarettes and maintain Chain of Custody.
- Machine setup, calibration, troubleshooting.
- Verification of lab equipment as required (i.e., pipettors, dispensers and balances).
- Assist with setting up and conducting standardized laboratory experiments, tests, and basic analyses.
- Generates samples following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) while adhering to ISO 17025 guidelines.
- Compile data using our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Transferring samples (i.e., removal of pad from pad holder, cleaning pad holders, transferring solution from impingers and adding internal standards, spiking of samples).
- Preparation of solutions, standards, ice baths, glassware, etc
- Labeling flasks and vials.
- Shaking of samples on lateral or wrist-action shaker (where applicable)
- Transferring samples from flasks to autosampler vials (decant or filter)
- Loading samples on instruments (where applicable)
- End of shift clean-up, glassware cleaning
- Daily Safety Inspections and stretching
- General maintenance and upkeep
- The employee shall implement the Laboratory Quality Policy and perform their duties in accordance with existing project specific requirements, current Test Methods, Study Plans and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Compliance with Health & Safety policies and procedures and wear required Personal Protective equipment at all times.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Minimum 2 years of laboratory experience preferred.
