Job Requirements of Shift Lead - Food Manufacturing:
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and support production staff during assigned shift, providing direction and feedback to ensure efficiency and adherence to schedules.
- Monitor operations to ensure compliance with food safety, quality, and sanitation standards (e.g., HACCP, GMP, and SQF).
- Coordinate shift handoffs and communicate production issues, safety concerns, and equipment malfunctions to management.
- Train and coach team members on procedures, safety protocols, and equipment operation.
- Maintain accurate production records and reports, ensuring traceability and compliance documentation are complete.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and improve safety.
- Collaborate with Maintenance and Quality teams to resolve issues affecting production performance.
- Lead or assist in root cause analysis and corrective action implementation for production or quality deviations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical training in manufacturing, food science, or related field preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in food manufacturing with at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Strong understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), HACCP, and food safety regulations.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a production team in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

The Shift Lead oversees daily production activities on the manufacturing floor, ensuring that safety, quality, and productivity standards are met. This role is responsible for supervising production team members, coordinating workflow, and ensuring compliance with food safety regulations and company policies. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in food manufacturing and the leadership skills to keep operations running smoothly across shifts.
